Crusader Defence is a level-based tower defense game where you strategically place medieval units to protect your castle from waves of monsters. This browser-based action game challenges you to use gold earned from fallen foes to build and upgrade a formidable army of crusaders along a set path, preventing enemies from reaching their goal.
Your primary objective in each level of Crusader Defence is to survive a predetermined number of enemy waves. Monsters will spawn and follow a fixed path toward your castle gate. You have a limited number of lives, and each monster that successfully breaks through your defenses will cost you one life.
To win a level, you must eliminate all enemies in all waves before your life counter hits zero. Successfully defending the castle unlocks the next, more challenging stage.
Success relies on knowing your units. You'll typically have access to a few core crusader types. Basic swordsmen are great for placing near the path to block and engage enemies directly. Archers offer long-range attacks, making them ideal for placement on corners where they can shoot at enemies for longer.
As you progress, you may unlock more powerful units like mages who deal area-of-effect damage, perfect for handling large groups of weaker foes. Each unit costs a different amount of gold and can be upgraded multiple times to increase its damage, range, or attack speed.
The game is structured into distinct levels, each with a unique path layout. At the start of a level, you have a small amount of gold to place your initial defenders. Enemies attack in organized waves, with short pauses in between for you to build or upgrade.
Later waves in a level introduce tougher and faster monsters, requiring you to adapt your strategy. Defeating any enemy rewards you with gold, which is your main resource for bolstering your defenses during the battle.
You can play Crusader Defence directly in your web browser with no downloads or installation required. Because it's an HTML5 game, it runs on most modern devices and is often accessible on school or work networks that might block other gaming sites. Just load the page and start defending your castle instantly.
The goal in Crusader Defence is to prevent waves of monsters from reaching the end of the path and entering your castle. You start each level with a set number of lives, and you lose one for every monster that gets past your defenses. Use your mouse to interact with the game. Left click on a crusader unit's icon in the menu, then left click again on an available plot on the map to place them. You also use the mouse to select units you've already placed to either upgrade or sell them. Each monster you defeat earns you gold. Use this gold during the level to place more crusaders or to upgrade existing ones, making them more powerful. Successfully defend against all the waves to complete the level and move on to the next challenge.
Corner Placements - Put your ranged units like archers on corners. This gives them the longest possible time to attack enemies as they travel along two sides of the path. Early Game Spread - Don't save up for a single powerful unit at the start. It's better to build several cheaper units to cover more of the path against the initial weak waves. Focus Your Upgrades - A single, fully upgraded tower at a key chokepoint is often more effective than several low-level towers spread out. Identify the best spot and invest in it. Know the Next Wave - The game usually shows you what type of enemy is coming next. If you see fast-moving enemies, build more units; if you see heavily armored ones, upgrade your strongest hitters. Sell and Replace - Don't be afraid to sell a poorly placed or obsolete unit to make room for a better one. You'll get some of your gold back to reinvest in a stronger defense.
